It was July 2007 when we started talking about the upcoming ( back then ) X38 Express Chipset from Intel... the launch date was originally planned for mid September... everybody was holding on for the new boards... and that's when things started to get tricky. Delays, delays & delays. After several delays, the manufacturers ( Asus & Gigabyte ) released their offerings with the Intel X38 chipset in Mid December 2007. In November rumors started to make their way round the web regarding a "new" chipset from Intel, called X48.After a while we found out that it wasn't actually a new chipset, just a newer "revision" of the X38 ( fixing some non-crucial issues ) and with strict ( better ) binning ( MCH ). Just like the X38, the X48 had several delays...actually it's still an unreleased chipset.
Today we'll check out the Gigabyte X48T-DQ6 ( Revision 1.1 ), a socket 775 motherboard, with Intel's X48 Express Chipset and some new "cool" features.
It's still an Engineering Sample, but the design is almost finalized, and with some final touches ( for the BIOS mainly ) it'll be ready for the public release.
I've seen several boards that are nearly finalized from Abit, Asus, Foxconn, Gigabyte & MSI, which shall be released soon enough.
Let's start unpacking our Gigabyte X48T-DQ6 Rev. 1.1 Engineering Sample now...
